BEL AIR, LOS ANGELES — October 31, 2026. Wildfire-related building and land-management rules remain under discussion at Los Angeles City Hall, and the Bel Air-Beverly Crest Neighborhood Council has formally entered the debate.
The City Clerk’s docket for Council File 25-1363, “2026 Los Angeles Wildland-Urban Interface,” records a community impact statement filed October 15, 2026 by the hillside neighborhood council. The file also contains a revised draft ordinance sent by the City Attorney in August and earlier reports from the Board of Fire Commissioners.
What is a wildland-urban interface?
The term describes areas where buildings and developed neighborhoods meet or mingle with vegetation and natural landscapes. In Bel Air, steep terrain, narrow roads and vegetation create fire-preparedness questions involving evacuation, defensible space and buildings.
Is a new rule already in effect?
The city docket currently identifies the matter as pending in the Public Safety Committee. The existence of a draft and a local council statement does not by itself mean the revised ordinance has been enacted. The City Council took earlier procedural action in February, while later drafts continued moving through the review process.
Homeowners planning major renovation or vegetation work should check the rules that are currently effective with LAFD and the city rather than assume the proposed 2026 text already applies. Readers can inspect the city record for exact language and future hearing notices.
